Winter Weather Preparedness Reminders

UNION CITY, CA, November 14, 2024 - As cooler temperatures and rain return to the Bay Area, the City of Union City encourages residents and businesses to take proactive steps now to prepare for winter storms. A few simple precautions can help prevent property damage, reduce safety hazards, and ensure our community remains resilient during the rainy season.

Tips for Home or Business

  • Clear gutters, downspouts, and storm drains of leaves and debris to prevent flooding.
  • Protect entryways and low-lying areas with sandbags.

Drive Safely in Wet Weather

  • Ensure your vehicle's tires, brakes, and windshield wipers are in good condition.
  • Slow down, use headlights in rainy or foggy conditions, and never drive through flooded roadways.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Restock emergency kits with essentials such as flashlights, fresh batteries, bottled water, non-perishable food, blankets, and first-aid supplies. For more information on how to prepare yourself, your family, and your pets including first-aid and general preparedness visit the Emergency Preparedness webpage.

Union City Corporation Yard - 34650 7th Street

Sandbags
To help protect homes and businesses through the storm, a sandbag station is set up each Fall/Winter season to help prevent flooding of properties. Pre-filled sandbags are available at the Union City Corporation Yard (located at 34650 7th Street) in the front parking lot. There is a limit of five (5) pre-filled bags per Union City household/business to ensure there is an adequate supply for the community. The sandbag station will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
