From our Mayor: Bondi Beach Tragedy

I stand alongside every Mayor in Australia in condemning the Bondi Beach atrocities as an act of terrorism and as an attack on the Australian way of life.

With all Mayors we share the grief of the families of the victims, we honour the bravery of the first responders and offer our sincere thoughts and prayers to the wider Bondi community.

Sunday's events targeting the Jewish community have shocked and stunned as all. These criminal acts are abhorrent and have no place in Australia.

It is critical, that as we try to come to terms with the attack and loss of life, that we do this together. That we support each other during this traumatic and very sad time.

Last night's vigil at the Christ Church Cathedral in Grafton was a reassuring event where the focus was on the victims and their families, certainly not on the perpetrators of this heinous act.

A minute's silence will be observed at today's Council meeting in Grafton as a mark of respect for the innocent lives lost.
