Lawmakers to review draft law aimed at combating cross-border corruption

A draft law aimed at combating cross-border corruption is set for further review by lawmakers next week. This updated version includes enhanced measures to protect state secrets, business secrets, trade secrets, and personal information, an official said on Friday.

The draft law is ready for a second review by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislative body, during its upcoming session in Beijing, starting Monday. The draft was initially deliberated in August.

Huang Haihua, spokesperson for the Legislative Affairs Commission of the NPC Standing Committee, said at a news conference that the revised draft places a greater emphasis on respecting human rights and also adds some provisions to strengthen the protection of state secrets, business and trade secrets, as well as personal data and privacy.

Additionally, the draft law outlines requirements for domestic companies involved in cross-border operations. Depending on factors such as their size, business scope, and risk management needs, these companies are encouraged to establish dedicated departments or appoint personnel to oversee integrity and compliance, Huang added.
