Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua Attends the Seventh Joint Meeting to Deal ‎with the Issue of Safety of Chinese Tourists in the Maldives

On 18 December, the Seventh Joint Meeting to deal ‎with the issue of safety of Chinese tourists in the Maldives was jointly convened by the Chinese Embassy in the Maldives, the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. Ambassador Kong Xianhua attended the meeting and delivered remarks.

The meeting was attended by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ms. Sharyna, State Minister for Tourism and Environment Dr. Niyaz, representatives from 20 relevant government departments and agencies, Chinese-funded enterprises, and volunteers assisting with consular protection, with a total of around 100 participants.

Ambassador Kong noted that tourism is a key pillar of the Maldivian economy, and tourism cooperation is an important component of China Maldives relations. Chinese tourists continue to rank first among foreign visitor arrivals to the Maldives, making a significant contribution to the country's tourism sector and overall economic development. China attaches great importance to the safety of Chinese tourists in the Maldives and stands ready to work closely with the Maldivian side to take practical and effective measures to promote high-quality development of China Maldives tourism cooperation.

The Maldivian side stated that it highly values China's concerns and will strengthen inter-agency coordination to fully safeguard the safety and travel experience of Chinese tourists in the Maldives, with a view to attracting more Chinese visitors to the country.
