APCo representatives invite community members and landowners in the project area to learn more and provide input to the project team by attending an in-person open house.
OPEN HOUSE INFORMATION:
Thursday, July 23, 4:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Thomas Terrace Baptist Church
10660 Richmond Highway, Lynchburg, VA 24504
There is no formal presentation, so attendees may come and go at any time during the three-hour event. Residents can also visit the project website and virtual open house at AppalachianPower.com/JoshuaFallsStation.
"Relocating the substation is an important step in supporting the Valley Link Transmission Project, helping us meet the area's growing energy needs and strengthen reliability for customers," said George Porter, Appalachian Power spokesperson. "We encourage customers to attend the open house to learn more and share their feedback."
Landowners within the project area can expect to receive a packet in the mail that includes additional project details and a comment card they can return with their feedback. The project requires approval by the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC). Company representatives plan to file an application for approval with the SCC later this year. If the project receives approval, APCo expects construction to begin spring 2028 and conclude by fall 2030.
This relocation project is separate from APCo's ongoing early project development activities for a small modular nuclear reactor project at the existing Joshua Falls site and does not affect that process.
