The Venezuelan private sector supports the use and application of agricultural biotechnology. Nevertheless, Venezuelan regulations maintain a ban on the domestic use and research of modern biotechnology-derived agriculture, based on the 2015 Seed Law, which also prohibits the import of genetically engineered (GE) seed. However, Venezuela allows imports of GE-derived products, and the United States is the leading supplier, including corn, soybeans, soybean meal, and soybean oil. In 2024, the United States supplied an estimated 1,314,000 metric tons (MT) of GE-derived products to Venezuela.
