Millersville University's Conestoga Outdoors Club (COC) held its annual Trash Clean-Up on April 24, reinforcing the University's commitment to sustainability, community engagement and environmental stewardship.
This year's event marked a strengthened collaboration between the COC, Millersville Borough and the Office of University Relations and Strategic Initiatives. The Borough provided support through trash collection, approval to expand clean-up efforts beyond campus boundaries and coordination of volunteer release forms.
University Relations and Strategic Initiatives further amplified the initiative by promoting town-gown engagement along the Conestoga River, recently named the 2026 River of the Year.
Approximately 25 to 30 volunteers participated. They were divided into five groups, each led by a club member in a red high-visibility vest. Teams were assigned designated zones across campus and surrounding areas, where they collected litter and debris.
The clean-up resulted in two large, compressed trash bags and the removal of a rusted lawn chair, contributing to a cleaner campus and river environment.
Following the event, volunteers were recognized for their service with complimentary Domino's Pizza provided by the club.
The annual COC Trash Clean-Up continues to serve as a meaningful opportunity for students to earn volunteer hours, engage with peers and contribute to sustainability efforts that benefit both Millersville University and the broader community.
