CSUSM to Showcase Mandala Lab Pop-Up in April

Cal State San Marcos' Innovation Hub, Center ARTES and the Center for Contemplative Practices are partnering with the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art to showcase a pop-up installation of the New York City Rubin Museum's Mandala Lab. The installation will run from April 13-17.

The installation will be an interactive space drawing on inspiration from a Tibetan Buddhist mandala, a teaching aid used in traditional practices. Participants are guided through the five afflictions of pride, attachment, envy, anger and ignorance. The pop-up is open to students, faculty, staff and the community, and 90-minute facilitated sessions will be offered throughout the week. During these sessions, participants will learn how to cultivate clarity and equanimity through touch, sound and synchronized breathing.

"The big difference between presenting the Mandala Lab as an installation and conducting a workshop is that the participants get to experience the teachings inherent in the practice as a group," said Mandala Lab curator Tim McHenry.

The sessions focus on one of the many teachings associated with the mandala and provide emotional transformation to help promote a better understanding of oneself and others. Sessions will be held in the Extended Learning Building, Suite 101, 288 Campus Way, San Marcos.
