On Thursday, President Gitanas Nausėda and the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, currently on a state visit to Lithuania, visited the Lithuania-Belarus border.
The President of Lithuania noted that the eastern border of the EU and NATO remains a zone of hybrid threats posed by the Russian and Belarusian regimes. "For several years now, we have been experiencing repeated attacks that we see as organized and systematic hybrid operations, rather than isolated actions or random incidents. The aim of these operations is to destabilize, disrupt, and test our resilience - not only in Lithuania, but across the entire region," the President said.
The Presidents of Lithuania and the Czech Republic agreed that Russia remains a long-term threat to European security and discussed initiatives to strengthen the eastern flank of the EU and NATO. These include strengthening defense capabilities and making significant investments in the defense industry. The leaders of Lithuania and the Czech Republic agreed that the new European Union budget must reflect the growing security and defense needs, especially for countries on the EU's eastern border.
At the Padvarioniai border guard station, the Presidents of Lithuania and the Czech Republic were briefed on the latest situation in preventing violations of Lithuania's airspace and combating irregular migration.
