University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa

Contact:

The University of Hawaiʻi is asking commuters and residents who live near UH Mānoa to anticipate heavier-than-normal traffic on Saturday, October 17, when the UH football team hosts New Mexico at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex for homecoming.

Kick-off is at 4:30 p.m., and traffic is expected to start to increase in the early afternoon in both directions of the H-1 Freeway, especially the University Avenue off-ramps, along with the surrounding neighborhood streets, including University Avenue, Dole Street and Wai'alae Avenue.

UH staff assisted by special duty HPD officers will be stationed on the roads around campus to ensure traffic flows as efficiently as possible before and after the game. The university is utilizing the latest parking technology to expedite entry into and exit from the event and will continue to coordinate with the city to adjust traffic lights to expedite traffic flow as needed.

Parking

The lower campus parking structure opens at 12:30 p.m. UH football fans attending the game must have a pre-purchased parking pass to enter. Pre-purchased parking in the lower campus structure is available starting at $30. To minimize delays, fans MUST have their football parking pass (mobile or printed) ready to be validated when they arrive at the parking kiosks on Lower Campus.

The upper campus tailgate area in Zone 13 opens at 12:30 p.m. Fans must pre-purchase their pass. The two entryways are via East-West Road off of Dole Street and Maile Way off of University Avenue.

Upper campus lots also open at 12:30 p.m. and will be available on game day for $15 (credit card or mobile wallet payment only; no cash payment). The two entryways are via East-West Road off of Dole Street and Maile Way off of University Avenue. If you need assistance navigating to the stadium once you arrive, click this link to see the stadium in relation to your current location (requires location services to be activated).

If you plan to park in the surrounding neighborhoods, please be respectful of area residents and do not block driveways or make excessive noise.

Rooftop Pāʻina

Rooftop Pāʻina takes place on the fifth floor of the Zone 20 parking structure directly adjacent to the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex. Festivities kick off at 1:30 p.m. and wrap up 30 minutes before kickoff (note that while entry is free, a parking pass is required to park your vehicle in the structure). To build the excitement, the football team will be dropped off at Dole Street roughly 2.5 hours before the game and walk directly through the rooftop, giving fans the perfect opportunity to line up and cheer them on as they head to the stadium.

HPD urges Safer Roads, Together

Fans planning on drinking are urged to designate a sober driver, use a rideshare, taxi or Safe Ride Hawaiʻi, and help make sure everyone gets home safely. The Honolulu Police Department will continue high-visibility enforcement efforts to help keep our streets safe.
