Des Moines Parks and Recreation’s Fall/Winter Activities Guide is Full of Seasonal Fun!

Des Moines, Iowa- Friday, September 22, 2025 - Despite the summer warmth outside, cooler months are approaching. Today marks the first day of fall, and a great time to start planning your fall and winter fun. The Des Moines Parks and Recreation Fall/Winter Activities Guide is packed with ways to keep everyone engaged and active throughout the changing seasons.

The newly released digital Fall/Winter Activities Guide is now available, with registrations open for a variety of programs catering to all ages. Whether it's youth and adult sports leagues, environmental education programs, or memory-making family events, the guide has something for everyone.

"Des Moines Parks and Recreation is proud to offer an exciting slate of both new and returning activities that provide opportunities for all Des Moines residents to explore Des Moines," Parks and Recreation Director Ben Page said.

"As the weather cools, we know that our residents rely on our parks, facilities and the creative programming in our activities guide to stay active all winter long."

This fall, discover game-changing offerings like adapted sports and after school fun like Park-N-Play and our After-School Fall Program. This winter, check out new Adapted Programming, including the Adapted Holiday Party, indoor Floor Hockey and Adapted Skate sessions at Brenton Skating Plaza, designed to adapt to the abilities of participants. Special events and seasonal programming are also available at the city's dog parks, community recreation centers, cemeteries and more.

Des Moines Parks and Recreation is also actively recruiting for seasonal staff to support the upcoming winter activities. Those interested in applying can find more information and submit applications at DSM.city/ParkJobs.

Parents and guardians should first create an account on the Parks and Recreation Department's registration system at DSM.city/parks. Once the account is set up, they can then register their children for activities. Due to the popularity of many programs, early registration is highly recommended to secure a spot. Sign up today at DSM.city/Register.

In an effort to make programs accessible to all, scholarships with $5 registration fees for athletic programs are available through partnerships with Des Moines Public Schools and the State of Iowa. Eligibility details and application information can be found on the Des Moines Parks and Recreation website under the GRASP and YRSP scholarship programs or by visiting DSM.city/Scholarships.
