UW Music Presents Factory Seconds Brass Trio Sept. 18

The University of Wyoming Department of Music presents the Factory Second Brass Trio Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall.

The concert is free, and the public is invited.

Established in 2013, the Factory Seconds Brass Trio brings a distinctive voice into brass chamber music. Made up of Jack Sutte, trumpet, Richard King, horn (UW performance), and Richard Stout, trombone, the trio features musicians from the world-renowned Cleveland Orchestra, who also are faculty members at the Baldwin Wallace Conservatory.

The Factory Second Brass Trio performs in settings ranging from concert halls to warehouses, to churches to restaurants and bars. The trio has presented on local and regional chamber music series and as guests at universities across the United States, and has twice appeared as featured soloists at Carnegie Hall, including appearing with the Interlochen Arts Academy.

Known for their creative transcriptions of early music and active collaboration with contemporary composers, the trio offers a program of music at UW ranging from 12th century compositions to present-day works, including pieces by Léonin, Hans Sachs, Jacques Arcadelt, Maurice Bardin, David Loeb, Ryan Charles Ramer, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Nils Viggo Bentzon.

Factory Seconds has premiered numerous works by composers such as David Loeb, Clint Needham, Norman Sherman and Robert Pound. Esin Gunduz and Matthew Barbier have written pieces for electronics and the trio. Upcoming premieres include works by Joel Love, Paul Rudy and Jesse Jones. The trio also has numerous recording credits, including "Distant Carillons" (Centaur), featuring music for trio and piano by David Loeb, with pianist Christina Dahl, and soon will release recordings of American music and European trio music.
