MINNEAPOLIS - United States Attorney Daniel N. Rosen announced that Lazerrick Alante Stewart, 20, was sentenced to 71 months in prison for unlawful possession of a machinegun. The defendant previously pleaded guilty on February 19, 2026, and was sentenced before U.S. District Chief Judge Eric C. Tostrud on October 6, 2026.
According to court documents, on July 23, 2025, Brooklyn Park Police responded to a report of a robbery and vehicle theft at a convenience store by two individuals. The victim was returning to his vehicle after leaving the store when Stewart and another male approached him. Stewart was holding a Glock Model 19X 9mm handgun that was affixed with a machinegun conversion device, and he pointed the firearm at the victim with the purpose of taking the vehicle and the victim's personal items. Stewart then took the victim's car keys, and the other male stole the victim's backpack which contained a small amount of cash. After Stewart and the other male left, the victim soon left his vehicle and the area of the robbery.
Approximately 40 minutes after the incident, Stewart and the other male returned to the scene and Stewart drove away with the vehicle. Law enforcement later located the victim's vehicle less than a mile away, unoccupied.
Law enforcement later additionally found and apprehended the defendant along with the handgun that was used during the robbery, another handgun, the victim's car keys, and backpack.
"I commend our federal and local law enforcement partners in this investigation. My office will continue to work to prosecute those who pose serious public safety threats to our communities," said United States Attorney Daniel N. Rosen.
This case was the result of an investigation by the Brooklyn Park Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, and other law enforcement partners.
