Today, President Ursula von der Leyen will deliver a speech at the event 'Protecting Children in the Digital Age', hosted by Australia, where she will lay out the EU's plan to take on harmful addictive designs on social media as well as cyberbullying. She will then participate in a panel session on investments in renewable energy in Africa, hosted by Global Citizen. Finally the President will represent the EU at the Climate Summit, where she will reaffirm Europe's strong contribution to the world's climate goals ahead of COP30. Follow live on EBS.
High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas will co-chair together with the Foreign Minister of Colombia a meeting of Foreign Ministers of the EU and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC). Commissioner Jozef Síkela will also participate. She will then host a lunch with the leaders of the Western Balkans. In the afternoon, she will co-chair a Ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance, together with Norway and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Commissioner Dubravka Šuica will also participate. High Representative/Vice-President Kallas will then co-host with Commissioner Hadja Lahbib the Ministerial side event on Sudan 'Joint Efforts for De-escalation in Sudan', organised by the EU, Germany, France, the African Union and the United Kingdom. In the evening, she will attend a Transatlantic dinner, organised by the US Secretary of State.
Commissioner Šuica will attend the signing ceremony of a loan from the European Investment Bank to the Palestine Monetary Authority and participate in the fifth meeting of the International Crimea Platform. In the afternoon, she will participate in the event 'Missing persons in Armed Conflict - advancing the search for answers'. In the evening, she will participate in the event 'Global Aging AARP High-Level Partners'.
Commissioner Lahbib will co-host the event 'Call to Action for the Children of the West Bank and Gaza', organised by the EU, Jordan and Belgium. She will co-host the event 'Humanitarian Diplomacy: Realising Hope in Middle East Crises', together with Saudi Arabia, the World Food Programme, International Committee of the Red Cross and the Norwegian Refugee Council. In the evening, she will attend a high-level dinner hosted by UN's Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher.
Commissioner Síkela will deliver a keynote speech at the Campaign Launch Global Partnership for Education.
Commissioner Jessika Roswall will speak at the high-level side event 'Closing in on the Global Plastic Pollution Treaty', organised by Norway and Kenya.
Yesterday, College members engaged on a third day of intense diplomatic engagement in New York. President von der Leyen delivered a speech at the event 'Restoring Childhood and Humanity - Advancing Peace in Ukraine through the Return of Ukrainian Children', organised by Ukraine and Canada. In a meeting with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Commissioner Síkela announced new financial support worth €16 million to support the work of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. He also announced the Spotlight Initiative Africa Regional Programme 2.0 building on a programme that has already protected more than 21 million women and girls from violence since 2017.
