Tasman low brewing!

Key points - Newcastle to South Coast

  • Wednesday: South to southwest winds in the morning, with leftover northeast windswell. A small, peaky, junky wave, a bit cleaner down the south ends. That's about the best of it.
  • Thursday: A small, cleanish wave at the southern ends early. Then another pulse of south winds pushes up the coast, building junky, onshore surf into the overhead range by the afternoon.
  • Friday: A day to target. Leftover south swell, with winds easing and going offshore along much of the coast. Sydney to Newcastle could still have a bit of southerly wind early, so look for slight shelter to tidy up the raw, overhead, short-period swell. Northeast winds develop through the afternoon, more east-northeast around Newcastle. South-facing breaks look the go, with head-high to slightly overhead surf.
  • Saturday: Worth a look early, with offshore winds and small, clean, fun surf around waist to chest high. South magnets around Newcastle and Sydney could be chest high. Another southerly change then pushes up the coast.
  • Sunday to next week: Bigger surf looks to be on the way as a coastal or Tasman low develops. There's still plenty of model variation, so don't sweat the details yet. Southern corners and breaks sheltered from the south could be the go, depending on the winds.
