AECOM strengthens London market offering with new combined cost and project management team

Brian Smith will lead the new team in an expanded leadership role focused on London clients and market growth

LONDON (3 October 2026) - AECOM, the trusted global infrastructure leader, today announced that it has appointed Brian Smith to lead a new combined cost and project management team focused on the London market, strengthening its multidisciplinary offer to clients in the capital.

A member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Mr. Smith brings more than 30 years of experience in the London market to the role, having led cost consultancy services for major building projects across the capital and internationally. A recognised expert in cost consultancy for mixed used commercial and tall buildings, his portfolio includes landmark developments such as The Leadenhall Building, 80 Charlotte Street and One London.

Having spent more than 20 years with AECOM he has played a key role in shaping the business' growth and reputation in the market. In his new position, he will lead the combined cost and project management team while continuing to oversee the cost management discipline working with Alex Hammerton who will continue to lead project management.

"With a shortage of high-quality space, strong demand from the technology sector and an increasing focus on sustainable buildings, the London market continues to present significant opportunities," said Jo Streeten, Managing Director, Buildings & Places, Europe & India at AECOM. "By bringing together our cost and project management capabilities under Brian's experienced leadership, we can better provide the capital's clients with our multidisciplinary, whole life-cycle approach. Throughout his career, Brian has become a trusted advisor within London's property market and his renewed focus on strengthening client relationships will be instrumental in driving growth across our business."

"Cost and project management are two core, yet distinct, disciplines within AECOM's expertise," said Brian Smith, Head of Cost & Project Management, UK & Ireland, AECOM. "By bringing these capabilities and the people behind them under one team, we can think more holistically about how we deliver the best value. In an ever-evolving market, collaboration and insights from our industry-leading benchmarking data and market intelligence can provide a competitive advantage to clients across the capital."

"What excites me most about this role is the opportunity to work closely with clients, understand their ambitions, and help them navigate complex challenges. Delivering successful outcomes requires a strong focus on delivery, balancing cost and commercial drivers with design quality and the placemaking principles needed to secure planning approval and create lasting value."

The new cost and project management team comprises approximately 230 professionals based at AECOM's Aldgate office. Among its notable data sets, the team produces a quarterly market intelligence report tracking performance, tender prices, and building costs across the UK construction and engineering industry.
