The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) today urged home and community gardeners to plant and share surplus garden produce with local hunger-relief organizations and help feed neighbors experiencing hunger as part of its Plant for Hunger campaign.
"As spring gardening begins, we're encouraging residents to dedicate a small portion of their garden to growing extra fruits, vegetables or herbs that can later be donated to local food pantries and meal sites," said Rachel Redepenning, LLCHD Public Health Educator.

Redepenning said benefits of the Plant for Hunger campaign include:
All gardeners are encouraged to donate their excess produce and those who cannot garden are invited to help promote the campaign.
