Yahoo today unveiled the new Yahoo Weather, transforming one of its most beloved products into a smarter, more intuitive experience. The launch introduces a new app experience with enhanced forecasts, interactive past and future radar, expanded weather insights and customizable alerts, alongside a new integrated campaign featuring TV personality and entrepreneur Kyle Cooke as Yahoo's Weatherboy - a playful nod to his beverage brand, Loverboy, and his signature summer vibe. The campaign extends into the app with the Summer Report module, a custom in-app experience that lets users know whether it's "Time to Party" or if it's "Couch Weather."

"Weather is a digital experience people return to constantly, often multiple times a day. They're not just looking for the forecast. They're looking for context to help them navigate and plan their day," said Mike Park, Head of Yahoo Weather. "We reimagined Yahoo Weather around that need, combining smarter forecasts, more unique insights and a beautifully designed experience that makes checking the weather more useful and more enjoyable."

What's new on Yahoo Weather:

  • Smarter forecasts: Redesigned forecasts feature a new daily narrative to provide context around changing conditions, minute-by-minute precipitation forecasts, personalized notifications and an experience uniquely designed for both mobile app and iPad to help users plan ahead with greater confidence.
  • More powerful weather tracking: Faster, more responsive maps and radar, including new future radar, tappable, customized widgets for severe weather alerts and the ability to track multiple saved locations, make it easier to monitor changing conditions where they matter most.
  • Deeper weather insights: Expanded air quality, pollen, UV, wind, humidity, visibility and moon phase information provide additional context to help users better understand current and upcoming conditions.

Kyle Cooke stars as the Yahoo Weatherboy in new campaign

Who says weather can't be fun? To mark the launch, Yahoo tapped Kyle Cooke to star in a campaign, where he takes on a new role as Weatherboy and delivers his own spin on the daily outlook where every forecast is measured by one thing: whether it's a good day to party.

The spot opens with Kyle in-studio in front of a giant map, momentarily fumbling with the forecast before realizing the cameras are rolling. He quickly jumps into character, delivering a wildly unconventional weather report where every prediction points to sunshine and good vibes. A cutaway to his equally confused weatherboy in the field (also played by Kyle) only reinforces the absurdity, delivering an enthusiastically unhelpful update that sends the forecast even further off the rails.

The campaign extends inside the Yahoo Weather app with Summer Report, a custom in-app experience inspired by Kyle's signature voice and humor. Based on local weather conditions, the feature lets users know whether it's "Time to Party" or "Couch Weather," adding an unexpected dose of personality to the daily forecast while helping them make the most of the day ahead.

"Checking the weather is one of the most universal daily habits, but few people would describe the experience as fun," said Josh Line, chief marketing officer at Yahoo. "We wanted to change that. Kyle's humor and love of a good time made him the perfect person to help us reimagine what a forecast can be: not just useful, but something you actually look forward to checking."

"Summer should be fun, and so should checking the weather. So as Yahoo's official Weatherboy, I'm adding one metric nobody else forecasts: chance of party," said Kyle Cooke. "Find me in the Yahoo Weather app this summer. I'm not a meteorologist, but I know party weather when I see it."

The spot, created in partnership with Conscious Minds and directed by Dante Crisafulli, will run across Yahoo brand social channels including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

The new Yahoo Weather app is now available globally on iOS and in the U.S. on Android.
