Construction Prompts Closure of Lawson Road in Cumberland County

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - As part of the SR 28 (US 127) widening project, from north of I-40 to near Potato Farm Road, Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) contract crews will temporarily close a portion of Lawson Road beginning Tuesday morning May 26, 2026, following the conclusion of the Memorial Day lane closure restrictions. The closure is necessary to install a drainage pipe and complete associated grading and paving activities and is expected to last approximately 3 weeks.

A signed detour will be in place using Tabor Loop, directing drivers around the work zone. Motorists should follow posted signage and allow extra travel time when navigating the area.

As always, motorists are reminded to use TDOT's motorist information tools and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before departing. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on the phone while driving. For the latest updates, visit the TDOT SmartWay Map or dial 511 for statewide travel information.

Tennessee's Move Over Law requires drivers to move over for highway workers and emergency vehicles. Violations may result in up to 30 days in jail and fines up to $500.
