Travel back in time to the 1800s with the Penn State Alumni Association's Civil War Battlefields Tour. Taking place from Sept. 7-11, 2025, the tour will be led by Jared Frederick, assistant teaching professor of history at Penn State Altoona.
ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona Students, faculty and staff are invited on a free one-day bus trip on Saturday, Oct. 25, to explore iconic Civil War landmarks in Maryland and West Virginia.
The day includes motorcoach transportation and admission to Antietam National Battlefield and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.
Students enrolled in HIST 130: The Civil War Era will conduct tours for trip participants. The excursions will be followed by free time in the historic district of Harpers Ferry for dining and shopping.
The bus will depart from the Hawthorn bus stop at 8 a.m. and return at approximately 9:30 p.m. There is no fee for the trip. Email Jared Frederick at [email protected]to register.
This trip is made possible through the Land and Water Conservation Act Fund, a Penn State General Education Grant, individual contributions, and the Student Activity Fee.
