MSD Project Clear Responding to Overflow in Earth City

MSD Project Clear (MSDPC) crews are cleaning up after a wastewater overflow in Earth City. It was discovered late Wednesday night in an industrial area along Highway 141, north of I-70. MSDPC crews responded, identified the source of the leak, stopped it, and made the necessary repair within four hours, containing the overflow to a grassy area and a nearby ditch.

With the sun now up, cleanup efforts are getting underway. Crews will use vacuum trucks to suck up the wastewater and pump it back into the system. The process is expected to continue into next week. Disinfection needs will be assessed once the cleanup is complete. Sewer service is not affected.

Warning signs have been posted in the area, advising the public of the overflow. While there is no immediate threat to public health or safety, everyone is asked to avoid physical contact with water in the ditches along Highway 141 in the immediate vicinity. Anyone who comes in contact with wastewater should immediately and thoroughly wash with soap and water.

MSDPC has reported the break to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
