How Dollar General and Feeding America’s Partnership Supports Local Hunger Relief During Hunger Action Month

For nearly 48 million Americans, food insecurity remains a daily challenge - one that demands collective action to drive meaningful change. With 21,000+ stores and 34 distribution centers in the continental 48 states, Dollar General leverages its unique footprint and its partnership with Feeding America®, which provides in-kind donations from stores and distribution centers, to help combat hunger, support local food banks and provide critical resources to neighbors in need.

Hunger Action Month: Spotlighting DG and Feeding America's Partnership Benefiting Local Food Banks

During Hunger Action Month this September, Dollar General is spotlighting local Feeding America food bank partners to help ensure individuals and families in DG hometowns receive needed nourishment:

Meals on Wheels of Bennington County, Vermont

Through the Company's ongoing commitment to its mission of Serving Others , Dollar General's store in Bennington, Vermont provides essential in-kind donations, including fresh dairy products, to help Meals on Wheels of Bennington County, Vermont deliver nutritious and appealing meals to individuals 60 and older, as well as adults with disabilities under age 60.

"Dollar General's partnership with Meals on Wheels of Bennington County has made a meaningful difference in our ability to serve older adults throughout our community," shared Ilsa Svoboda, Executive Director of Bennington County Meals on Wheel. "Our volunteers regularly pick up donated food that helps us provide nutritious meals while stretching our resources even further. But this partnership is about more than food-it's about neighbors helping neighbors and making sure older adults in our community know they are cared for and not forgotten. We are incredibly grateful to Dollar General for being part of that mission."

Meals on Wheels of Bennington County serves some of the community's most vulnerable residents through home-delivered hot meals and meal sites located throughout the county, helping ensure neighbors have access to reliable nutrition and supportive services.

As a partner of Vermont Food Bank, a Feeding America affiliate food bank, Meals on Wheels of Bennington County benefits from a broader network helping to fight hunger across the region. Thus far in 2026, Vermont Food Bank received more than 33,500 pounds of food from Dollar General stores.

Dollar General's Zanesville, Ohio distribution center and local stores are partnering to help the one in six people currently food insecure in Greater Cleveland Food Bank's service area.

"Together, we are making a meaningful difference in the lives of families, children and seniors throughout northeast Ohio."

In fiscal year 2025, the food bank served over 404,000 people in Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Ashland and Richland counties, making it the largest hunger relief organization in northeast Ohio.

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin

This July, Dollar General operations leaders serving east Wisconsin stores rolled up their sleeves alongside Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin to repack 7,000 pounds of food for neighbors in need across 35 counties.

"When we come together to live out our mission of Serving Others, even a few hours of work can create a big impact. It was a rewarding opportunity to give back and make a difference in the communities Dollar General serves every day," shared Morgan Thompson, Dollar General's retail regional director of operations.

The food bank supports nearly 600 hunger relief partners and community-based programs dedicated to ensuring more families, children, and seniors in metropolitan, rural and suburban Wisconsin areas have access to needed foods. From January to July 2026, Feeding America food banks across Wisconsin received nearly 470,000 pounds of in-kind donations from DG stores and Dollar General's Janesville distribution center.

Dollar General's investment in hunger relief is reflected in the following measurable milestones:

• $1 Million Donation (July 2026): Dollar General marked another year of partnership with Feeding America with a $1 million donation to support hunger-relief efforts nationwide.
• $6 Million in Total Financial Support Since 2019: Since 2019, Dollar General has contributed more than $6 million in overall financial support to Feeding America local food banks serving more than half of U.S. counties.
• 95 Million Meals Provided: Through food donations from stores and distribution centers, Dollar General has helped provide the equivalent of more than 95 million meals to Feeding America partners since 2019.
• Fresh Produce in 7,000+ Stores: Dollar General currently offers fresh produce in more than 7,000 stores - more individual points of produce distribution than any other U.S. mass retailer or grocer.
