Organized by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the Conference of Ambassadors, Consuls General, Consuls and Military Attachés of the Republic of Croatia was held in Zagreb on 25 and 26 August 2026 at the National and University Library.
The Conference was opened by the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Gordan Grlić Radman, who stated that its purpose was to provide diplomatic representatives with guidelines for their future work and to exchange information and views through their experiences and discussions.
The opening of the Conference featured European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos as a guest speaker, who emphasized that enlargement has once again become an important geopolitical stabilizer for Europe and that the accession process needs to be accelerated, while ensuring respect for the rule of law and the Union's fundamental values.
The Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandroković, also addressed those present, underlining the importance of multilateralism, international law and strengthening NATO's European pillar. He pointed to the need to alert allies to security risks in the region.
At this year's Conference, representatives of Croatian diplomacy discussed European and global challenges, foreign and security policy, defense, artificial intelligence, the economy and energy, Croatia's international positioning, and the situation in South-Eastern Europe through various panel sessions.
The closing of the conference featured Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár as a guest, who presented Slovak perspectives on current geopolitical issues, as well as Slovakia's specific experience in the functioning of its foreign service.
In his closing address, Minister Grlić Radman said that the success of Croatian diplomacy is measured by concrete results and by the assistance provided to Croatian citizens in crisis situations. He emphasized the importance of Croatia's active role in South-Eastern Europe, its support for EU enlargement and for Ukraine, and the use of Croatia's geostrategic, energy and infrastructure advantages. He stated that Croatia must act reliably, usefully and consistently, highlighting people as the key value of Croatian diplomacy.
The Conference concluded with a formal reception hosted by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, who exchanged views with the ambassadors, consuls general, consuls and military attachés on the priorities of Croatia's foreign service.
