The City of Salinas is moving forward with a public engagement process to explore renaming the Cesar Chavez Library and Cesar Chavez Park following the recommendation from the Library and Community Services (LCS) Commission on June 10, 2026. The LCS Commission also established a subcommittee to develop a timeline and review process.
If the LCS Commission makes a final name recommendation after the community engagement and selection processes, there will be a 30-day review and public comment period, and a Public Hearing will be scheduled for the next regularly scheduled Council meeting for the City Council's consideration of the item.
Residents are encouraged to submit proposed names by July 31, 2026.
This process follows the City's established Policy for the Naming of City Buildings, Facilities and Property. This process was initiated following a request from the City Council.
