Since launching in 2022, Independence Blue Cross's (IBX) program with Sempre Health has helped fully insured commercial members save more than $1.1 million on prescription drugs. Eligible members receive discounts on certain medications when they refill their prescriptions on time and take them as directed. They also receive text reminders to help them stay on track with treatment. IBX recently added 13 drugs to the program, giving members more opportunities to save on medications used to treat a range of conditions, including asthma and other respiratory conditions, HIV, ADHD, cancer, and urologic conditions.
"Cost should never get in the way of someone taking the medications they need. That's why this program is so important. It helps members save money and sends helpful reminders that make it easier for them to take their prescription drugs as directed. When people can stay on their medications, they're more likely to stay healthy and get the care they need," said Dr. Reetika Kumar, senior vice president and chief customer officer of Clinical Solutions and Pharmacy Services at Independence Blue Cross.
The program has produced strong results, including:
"The results from our partnership with Independence Blue Cross show what's possible when cost is no longer a barrier to treatment," said Anurati Mathur, CEO of Sempre Health. "Adding 13 new medications to the program means even more IBX members can benefit. We're proud to partner with an organization that shares our commitment to member well-being."
IBX fully insured commercial members who take a prescription drug included in the program may be invited to enroll by mail, email, or text message. Once enrolled, members can receive discounts on eligible prescription drugs when they get their prescriptions on time and take them as prescribed.
Members also receive text reminders when it's time for a refill and may qualify for additional savings by staying on track with their prescription drugs.
No app, account, or smartphone is required. Members only need a mobile phone that can receive text messages.
