Summary

More than 100 American Family Insurance volunteers transformed their parking lot into a Habitat construction site on Sept. 10.

On Thursday, Sept. 10, the American Family Insurance parking lot looked a little different. Instead of cars, more than 100 American Family Insurance volunteers filled the space with lumber, hammers and teamwork as they came together to frame an entire Habitat for Humanity of Dane County home.

A parking lot at American Family Insurance's Madison, Wisconsin headquarters was transformed into a temporary Habitat construction site. Volunteers worked together to build the home's interior and exterior walls that will eventually become part of a permanent new home.

By the end of the morning, volunteers had the incredible opportunity to see the walls they built standing tall, just as they will when the home is moved to its permanent location.

"This is what partnership looks like," said Hilary Parker, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Dane County. "American Family Insurance has been a longtime partner in our work to build strength, stability and brighter futures for local families. Their staff not only gave their time, they helped build a place a family will one day call home. We are incredibly grateful for their commitment to our community."

The partnership extends well beyond Dane County. American Family Insurance is also expanding its support to more than 30 additional Habitat affiliates across the country, helping communities make affordable homeownership possible for more families.

"American Family invests to create stronger and more resilient communities across our footprint. Habitat Dane County aligns with our purpose of helping make the dream of home ownership a reality for more families," said Nyra Jordan, American Family Insurance associate vice president, community engagement. "Our partnership with Habitat is part of our commitment to ensure everyone has access to a safe and affordable home."

Through affordable homeownership, Habitat helps families build a stronger foundation for their future while strengthening neighborhoods throughout Dane County.

Since 1987, Habitat for Humanity of Dane County has partnered with low- to moderate-income families to build and repair homes in 18 communities throughout Dane County. Today, Habitat Dane is actively building in Madison, Sun Prairie and Stoughton, Wisconsin.

The Sept. 10 build is a powerful reminder that building a home takes more than lumber and nails, it takes a community willing to work together and help build a better future, one wall at a time.
