How To Submit an Associate Broker Request

A broker or brokerage wanting to become associated with a business broker or brokerage must initiate the request through the Real Estate and Appraiser License Management (REALM) Portal.

Important: Under current law, the associated broker or brokerage is responsible for both initiating and terminating the association. For example, if an individual broker wants to become associated with a brokerage, the individual broker must submit the Associate Broker Request. Likewise, if the broker wishes to end the association, the broker must initiate the termination request. The brokerage cannot initiate these actions on the broker's behalf.

Steps To Submit an Associate Broker Request

1. Log in to the REALM Portal and navigate to your broker or business broker license.
2. Select Amendment.
3. Under Type of Change Request, select Associate Broker Request.
4. Click Continue Application.
5. On the Licensed Professional section, click Lookup.
6. Select Business Broker (BB) as the license type.
7. Enter the license number of the business broker or brokerage you want to associate with.
8. Click Lookup.
9. When the message "Licensed professional added successfully" appears, verify the information and click Continue Application.
10. Review the application information.
11. Scroll to the bottom of the page and check the certification box to confirm that you are requesting association with the selected brokerage.
12. Click Continue Application to submit your request.

What Happens Next?

After the request is submitted, a notification is sent to the brokerage. The brokerage must review and approve the request before the association becomes effective.

To review and accept an Associate Broker Request, sign in to the REALM Portal and check the Dashboard. Pending requests typically appear in the Work in progress section on the initial screen after login. If the request does not appear there, verify that the associated broker has successfully submitted the request
