Firework Safety

When you think of the 4th of July, you automatically think of parades, backyard barbecues, and fireworks. Since fireworks are illegal in the City limits, the best and safest way to enjoy them is to attend a public firework show put on by professionals. If you are in an area where fireworks are legal, here are some tips to help keep you and your family safe this Independence Day:

  • Never try to make your own fireworks
  • Never point firework towards people, animals, or vehicles
  • If lighting fireworks, wear protective eyewear
  • Only light one firework at a time and never light a firework while holding it in your hand
  • Always have an adult supervise fireworks and never allow children to light or play with fireworks
  • Never light fireworks in a container (especially one made of glass or metal)
  • Never try to relight a "dud". Douse it with water and throw it away
  • Have a water bucket/hose or fire extinguisher close at hand

Stay safe this Independence Day and make sure your 4th of July memories are fun for everyone.
