On January 16, 2026, just after 3:30 p.m., officers from Central District responded to the 200 block of Portage Avenue following a commercial robbery that had occurred moments earlier.
A man entered a bank and provided a written note to a front teller indicating that he had a weapon and demanded money. The man was provided with an undisclosed amount of money and fled without incident. Police were contacted shortly after and entered into an investigation. No weapons were observed at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported.
Just before 4:00 p.m., officers located and arrested the man on a transit bus that was stopped at Portage Avenue and Colony Street. No weapon was located.
The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation.
Jonathan FONTAINE, (29), has been charged with Robbery and was detained in custody.
