Putting Community First

Community is integral to First Community Bank. Not only are our banks based in communities of all sizes and served by local bankers and team members, we encourage employees to invest in their community by volunteering and supporting local organizations and causes that matter to them. To make it easier to volunteer, every employee receives paid time off for community service.

It's a joy to see those hours spent in such significant ways, from welcoming new Fort Jackson recruits with the USO at Columbia Metropolitan Airport to pitching in on the construction of a new Habitat for Humanity home. Employees, individually and collectively, work to alleviate emergency needs like collecting shoes for children, socks for shelters, or nonperishable groceries for food pantries or law enforcement to share.

Perhaps one of the most meaningful ways of giving back is by sharing financial education and resources. First Community hosts financial literacy programs and lending events that help people understand basic financial and credit management or what it takes to start a business or own a home.

We invest time helping children learn and understand life skills like spending wisely, saving and giving back, as well as nurturing entrepreneurship in programs like Junior Achievement's Augusta Discovery Center and Lemonade Day in Lexington. And we help seniors understand potential scams targeting the elderly and share how they can protect themselves.

Giving back is so ingrained at First Community it's formally built into our organizational foundation as a cultural belief. In fact, "Spirit of Service" dates back to the days when First Community Bank was just an idea sketched on a napkin.
