FEMA Appoints Randall D. Meshell as Regional Administrator for Region 6

DENTON, Texas - Randall "Randy" D. Meshell took the oath of office today as Regional Administrator for FEMA Region 6, following his appointment by the Trump administration.

FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton arrived from Washington, D.C. to participate in the swearing in ceremony at the Denton, Texas, regional headquarters.

The Region 6 Administrator oversees FEMA operations supporting 68 federally recognized Tribal Nations and the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

"We are thrilled to welcome Regional Administrator Meshell who understands unique qualities and challenges of these States," Administrator Hamilton said. "I look forward to working with him as FEMA continues to support communities across the country under President Trump's leadership. This includes locally managed, state-led, and federally supported capacity building throughout the disaster lifecycle."

Meshell most recently directed statewide preparedness as Division Chief for the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM). He led the state's efforts to strengthen local emergency planning, exercises, technological hazards and emerging threat preparedness.

Previously, he led the FEMA Region 6 National Preparedness Division. In that role, he managed security, intelligence, continuity of operations, training, exercises, grants and preparedness programs.

The Secretary of Homeland Security twice appointed him to Federal Coordination Teams for special regional security events, and he has managed responses to numerous major national disasters and emergencies.

Before FEMA, Meshell worked as a firefighter and assistant fire marshal. As a U.S. Army veteran, he deployed in support of Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Meshell earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma and is an alumnus of the FEMA Pinnacle program.
