June 19, 2026 - In nearly two weeks, the City of Bettendorf's 4th of July Celebration will kick off with our traditional parade, which will be led by a Bettendorf resident who recently retired from 50+ years of city service.
The City of Bettendorf is excited to reveal that its 2026 4
th of July Parade Grand Marshal is Greg Adamson. During his weekly
Mayor's Message, Mayor Bob described Greg as one of his mentors and thanked him for his service to our country and community:
"Especially for a person like Greg, who never really sought the spotlight, wanted things to get done, didn't care who got the credit, I am very pleased that we get to give Greg some credit with this honor," said Mayor Bob.
"I'm just so humbled to be picked to be the 2026 4
th of July Parade Grand Marshal, because I've seen over the many years, people who've been selected for Grand Marshal, and they're very impressive people," said Greg.
Greg retired from the Bettendorf City Council at the end of 2025 after representing the 4
th Ward for 16 years. Before that, he served for 7 years on the Bettendorf Park Board and was instrumental in creating the
Bettendorf Veterans Memorial in 2003, which is located in Veterans Memorial Park (1645 23
rd Street). Before becoming a Council Member and a Park Board Member, Greg spent 31 years with the Bettendorf Police Department, rising to the rank of Captain.
Greg also spent four years on the Scott County Board of Supervisors and 26 years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve. He moved to Bettendorf in 1970, shortly after leaving the U.S. Army, and has called it "home" since.
"Greg Adamson is an absolute gem and the most deserving person we could ask for to serve as our 2026 4
th of July Parade Grand Marshal," said Assistant City Administrator Jeff Reiter. "Greg is a wonderful human being and has done so much good for our community. We encourage everyone in our community to come celebrate him as he leads our parade on Saturday, July 4 starting at 10 a.m. in Downtown Bettendorf!"
