Morningstar Investment Conference South Africa Returns with Practical Insights for a Changing World

Leading industry voices explore markets, cybersecurity, evolving client expectations, practice growth and the investment implications of AI

Cape Town, South Africa - Morningstar South Africa is pleased to announce the return of the Morningstar Investment Conference South Africa (MICSA) in 2026, South Africa's largest gathering of financial advisers, taking place in Johannesburg (8 September) and Cape Town (10 September).

Now in its 14th year, the MICSA will bring together wealth and investment professionals for a full day of independent insights, practical guidance and local and global perspectives. Under the theme, "Focus on What Matters", the conference will help advisers cut through complexity and concentrate on the insights, decisions and actions that can make the greatest difference to their practice and clients.

The 2026 agenda will address cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, changing client expectations, sustainable practice growth and South Africa's economic outlook.

"At Morningstar, we remain committed to helping investors and advisers make better decisions through independent research and practical, forward-looking insights," says Tal Nieburg, Managing Director for Morningstar South Africa. "The MICSA 2026 will give delegates clear perspectives on the changes shaping their practices and actionable ideas they can apply to deliver stronger client outcomes."

Key sessions at the MICSA 2026 include:

Global Realities, Local Opportunity: mapping South Africa's road ahead

Nicky Weimar, Chief Economist at Nedbank, will open the conference with a wide-angle view of the forces shaping South Africa's economic trajectory, and, by extension, the environment clients are investing in. Expect a frank read on where momentum is genuine, where it is fragile, and where the binding constraints on growth still sit.

Cybersecurity: Why Your Practice Could Make the Ideal Target

Kevin Hogan, Head of Fraud & Risk at Investec Bank, and Abigail Wilson, Portfolio Specialist at Morningstar, will explain why financial advice practices are attractive targets for fraud. Advisers will gain practical guidance on strengthening processes, protecting client information and responding to an incident.

The Evolving Value of Advice: What Clients Look for When They Hire a Financial Adviser

Dr Ryan Murphy, Global Head of Behavioural Insights at Morningstar, will explore the emotional reasons clients choose an adviser and share practical ways to sharpen a practice's value proposition.

Navigating Global Markets

How much does the location of your fund manager matter? Sean Neethling, Head of Investments South Africa, and Michael Dodd, Director: Manager Selection Services, both Morningstar, will be joined by leaders from M&G Investments, Ninety One, and PSG Asset Management to give their distinct perspectives on what it takes to build robust portfolios that are diversified across asset classes and geographies, and what actually drives client outcomes.

Grow Your Own Way: Practice Success Stories

Roné Swanepoel, Head of Distribution at Morningstar, will be joined by leaders from Chartered Wealth Solutions, Jurgens Group, Resolute Wealth Management and Wealth Associates to share how they have grown their businesses while maintaining strong client service and outcomes. The panel will explore the challenges they faced and lessons learned.

AI in 2026: Winners, Losers and Investment Strategies

Kenneth Lamont, Principal, Manager Research at Morningstar, will examine how artificial intelligence is reshaping industries and investment markets, identify potential winners and losers, and discuss approaches to AI-related opportunities.

The programme will also explore global portfolio construction, South Africa's political outlook and practical lessons in rebuilding and scaling a differentiated business.

Together, these sessions will bring a focus on what matters, helping advisers to look beyond the noise and shape stronger practices and better client outcomes.
