Washington (October 6, 2025) - Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) today released the following statement marking two years since the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel that saw the murder of 1,200 people:
"It has been two years since Hamas's heinous attack on Israel, and we continue to mourn with the families who lost loved ones that dark day and pray for the families of the hostages still held captive. It is their grief and their unrelenting hope that must drive our efforts toward peace.
"Since that terrible day, more than 65,000 Palestinians have lost their lives in the brutality of the war in Gaza. We must end this conflict, get the remaining hostages home, and flood humanitarian aid into Gaza. I welcome the recent progress on ceasefire negotiations, as this is as close as we have come to peace since the war began. While differences remain and both sides must show flexibility to reach agreement, we must not lose this opportunity to stop the bloodshed, end this tragic war, and set the Middle East on a path toward a comprehensive peace."
