Wyden Statement on Bisignano Comments on the Social Security Retirement Age

Washington, D.C. - Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today issued the following statement on Social Security Administration (SSA) Commissioner Frank Bisignano's statement that the Trump administration was considering raising the retirement age:

"Trump has already broken promises by raising taxes on typical families and passing a bill that triggered $500 billion in cuts to Medicare, not to mention unleashing DOGE to rip apart Social Security from the inside out. Every word Trump and Bisignano say about protecting Social Security is a lie, and there's no doubt in my mind that Trump would sign a bill raising the retirement age if he had the opportunity. The reality is, these guys just don't care if their actions drive elderly people and their families into misery."
