Miller Canfield is pleased to announce that Elizabeth "Libby" Munoz-Smith has joined the firm's Employment and Labor Group as an associate in the firm's Lansing office.

Munoz-Smith brings exceptional experience from her federal clerkship with Judge Matthew Leitman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, where she drafted opinions and orders on a range of complex civil matters. She previously served as a legal intern with the U.S. Department of Justice's Office on Violence Against Women and as a legal extern with Public Justice's Students' Civil Rights Project, where she contributed to briefs filed with the U.S. Supreme Court.

Munoz-Smith earned her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2024, where she was a senior editor of the Michigan Law Review and earned a Certificate of Merit in Civil Procedure. She also represented clients in the school's Pediatric Advocacy Clinic and authored a published note on defamation protections in campus sexual misconduct proceedings. She earned her B.A. in anthropology and sociology, magna cum laude, from Kalamazoo College, where she was a member of the varsity soccer and basketball teams.

"We are thrilled to welcome Libby to our team," said Miller Canfield CEO Michael Palizzi. "Her outstanding academic achievements and hands-on experience at the federal and policy levels will be an asset to our clients and to the firm."

Munoz-Smith is admitted to practice in Michigan and the U.S. District Court for the Western and Eastern Districts of Michigan.
