LAS VEGAS, NV - U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) recently toured the new Historic Westside Education & Training Center in Las Vegas, in celebration of its ribbon cutting. The center, constructed with support from the City of Las Vegas and College of Southern Nevada, will provide credentialed job training in various trades, including advanced manufacturing, healthcare, construction, and technology. The facility features a healthcare laboratory, classrooms, a computer lab, and offices, as well as vocational classrooms for manufacturing, construction, and welding. The site also includes dedicated parking, a pad for a future incubator space, an outdoor plaza, and a pedestrian connection to the Historic Westside School.
"To create jobs and expand opportunities for Nevadans, we need to invest in expanding access to cutting-edge training resources-that's exactly what this center is doing," said Senator Rosen. "I'm thrilled to have been able to see firsthand how it will help to support Las Vegas communities. As long as I'm in Washington, I'll keep working to bring job training opportunities to our state."
Senator Rosen has been working to support Nevada's workforce. Last week, she announced that Las Vegas will be receiving $5 million in federal funding to support the construction of the Eastside Education and Training Center. Last year, she introduced legislation to provide Nevadans with skills training for high-demand fields like manufacturing, construction, and IT. This year, Senator Rosen introduced the bipartisan STEM RESTART Act, which would provide funding to support mid-career internships, known as "returnships," for workers seeking to return to or transition into the STEM workforce. Rosen has secured $14.9 million in funding to support workforce development projects in manufacturing, health care, information technology, and transportation across northern Nevada.
