Yuma Area Office to conduct emergency notification testing

YUMA, ARIZ. - On July 29, the Bureau of Reclamation's Yuma Area Office, located at 7301 Calle Agua Salada, will conduct an operational test of its chemical release alarm and mass notification systems. The test will verify that the systems are fully functional and able to support evacuation and safety procedures in an emergency.

Between 8:00 a.m. and noon MST, the alarms and mass-notification sirens will sound multiple times, with activations lasting up to 20 minutes, to confirm the systems are operating as intended. The equipment is designed to alert both on-site employees and nearby residents in the event of an accidental chemical release, supporting safety protocols for the office's chlorine storage used in desalination operations. Sirens may be heard several miles away from the facility, and no action is required from nearby residents, businesses, or the local farming community during the test.

The Yuma Area Office conducts these tests regularly to verify the systems remain ready for use during an actual emergency.
