Boise State announces new deputy director for government relations

Nicole Fitzgerald will join Boise State University as deputy director for government relations and special advisor to the president on Sept. 28.

Fitzgerald has more than 13 years of experience in advocacy, legislative engagement and cross-sector partnerships. She has served as chief deputy for the Idaho Secretary of State's Office since January 2023, where she has set strategic direction for six divisions, focused on fostering a responsive and collaborative culture across the organization.

"Sharing the Boise State story with key stakeholders is vital as we continue to grow in service to our students and our state," said Interim President Jeremiah Shinn. "As a proud alumna and former Bronco student-athlete, Nicole brings not only tremendous experience in Idaho government, but also a deep personal understanding of our mission and impact. I'm so glad to welcome her back to her alma mater."

She will work closely with Pete Risse, director for government and industry relations.

"I am thrilled to welcome Nicole to this role and look forward to continuing the effort to build relationships that help advance the public mission and strategic objectives of Boise State University and the State of Idaho," Risse said.
