Premier submitted a statement for a hearing the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Science, Manufacturing, and Competitiveness held on Sept. 10 to examine the White House AI Action Plan. In its statement, Premier urged lawmakers to continue exploring thoughtful regulations that unleash the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare while maintaining the efficacy, accuracy and transparency necessary to protect end users and patients. Specifically, Premier encouraged the subcommittee to consider:

The value of potential AI use cases in healthcare, including applications in reducing administrative burden, clinical settings, drug development and manufacturing, and healthcare supply chain operations;

The need for a national privacy law to maintain competitiveness and innovation in the development and implementation of AI;

The importance of a clear regulatory framework prioritizing transparency and risk mitigation in the development, maintenance, and use of AI tools;

The development of a clinical workforce capable of maximizing the potential of AI technology in healthcare; and

The critical nature of US AI leadership to the security of healthcare infrastructure.
