Honduras, August 12, 2025.- CABEI announced today the approval of a set of key operations for the sustainable development of its countries during its Ordinary Meeting of the Board of Directors. These initiatives are aimed at improving the quality of life, promoting inclusion, and strengthening sustainability in their respective countries.
Honduras will have more energy through a US$300 million credit line for the National Electric Energy Company (ENEE). The Bank will support the bidding for 1,500 MW of firm capacity, benefiting more than 2.2 million users. This operation will promote private investments of over US$2 billion and contribute to a more efficient and sustainable electricity system.
In Guatemala, CABEI is providing a loan to support micro and small enterprises, including the creation of thousands of jobs. This is the first operation directed to Crédito Hipotecario Nacional (CHN) for US$60 million. The funds will support MSMEs-especially those led by women-social housing, and productive sectors, in addition to promoting financial inclusion.
For Panama, CABEI will also be promoting MSMEs and productive development with a new US$20 million credit line to Banesco Panama, which will facilitate the financing of more than 280 businesses run by entrepreneurs and producers, thereby strengthening economic stability and job creation in the country.
In Nicaragua, 2.4 million Nicaraguans will benefit from improvements to the country's road infrastructure. With an investment of US$235 million, the expansion and improvement of roads will be financed, facilitating people's access to health, education, and employment services, reducing travel times, and improving quality of life. Approximately 50 kilometers will be upgraded in five departments, incorporating sustainable and climate-resilient infrastructure practices.
To support Colombia in advancing its climate agenda, the Bank approved a US$75 million Development Policy Operation to support the country in priority environmental reforms. These include the regulation of single-use plastics, greenhouse gas monitoring, and the strengthening of strategic reserves, promoting more equitable, resilient, and low-carbon development.
For Argentina, a US$100 million initiative was approved to support 2.7 million people in terms of food security. The project will benefit 1.5 million households, prioritizing girls, boys, adolescents, pregnant women, and people with disabilities, through transfers that guarantee access to the basic basket of goods in the country's 24 provinces.
These operations reaffirm CABEI's role as an engine of positive transformation and its commitment to the economic, social, and environmental development of its member countries.
