Rosen, Blackburn Introduce Bill to Cut Red Tape for Providers to Take Care of America’s Servicemembers and Veterans

Bill Would Streamline Credentialing for Medical Providers Across DoD and VA

WASHINGTON, DC -U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) introduced legislation to remove bureaucratic hurdles and streamline the process for medical practitioners who work with both the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This bill will allow medical providers to more easily practice between the departments and bolster access to health care for servicemembers and veterans, which will help eliminate delays in patient care.

"Health care providers who work at the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Defense do critical work in caring for the men and women who serve and have served our nation," said Senator Rosen. "I'm proud to help introduce this bipartisan bill to remove bureaucratic red tape and allow medical providers to more easily practice between the two departments to improve care for veterans and servicemembers. As long as I'm in the Senate, I'll always work to make sure everyone who has worn our nation's uniform has the care, support, and hope they deserve."

"Health care providers shouldn't be hindered by bureaucratic red tape when caring for the men and women who have bravely served our nation," said Senator Blackburn. "Our bipartisan legislation would end unnecessary duplication so that medical providers can move between the DoW and VA more quickly, ensuring service members and veterans get the high-quality care they need without delay."

Senator Rosen has been actively working to ensure that Nevada's veterans have the federal support they need. Last month, she introduced a bill to increase the availability of mental health services for veterans. Earlier this year, she introduced the FORGOTTEN Veterans Act, which would ensure that veterans who served at classified locations within the Nevada Test and Training Range since 1951 are able to prove that they served there, and can finally get the PACT Act benefits they deserve following their exposure to radiation from nuclear tests and other toxins. Senator Rosen also introduced a bipartisan bill with Senate Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Moran to incentivize employers to hire student veterans for part-time work and paid internships. She has also secured funding to increase access to affordable housing for veterans, continue building Nevada's first national veterans cemetery in Elko, and increase funding for veterans' access to telehealth.
