STAR, N.C. - The Foundation of FirstHealth Montgomery Network is hosting a festive Kentucky Derby-themed Derby Day Fundraiser on May 2, 2026, bringing the community together in support of the transformational new hospital project in Troy.
Set against the backdrop of Starworks in Star, the event begins at 5:30 p.m. and features an evening of dinner, drinks, music, dancing, spirited auction experiences and time honored Derby traditions. Guests are encouraged to don their best Derby inspired attire, including hats and fascinators, for a night that combines celebration with meaningful impact.
Proceeds from the Derby Day event will benefit the construction of the new Montgomery Memorial Hospital - an essential investment in the future of rural health care in Montgomery County.
The replacement hospital will span approximately 40,000 square feet and deliver enhanced emergency services, modern inpatient and outpatient care, advanced diagnostics, short-term rehabilitation and long term sustainability while maintaining its critical access designation.
"Our community deserves a hospital built for the future," said Katie Hursey, chair of the Montgomery Foundation Network. "Derby Day isn't just a celebration, it's an opportunity for our residents to come together, honor our shared past and take collective action to secure exceptional health care for generations to come."
The current Montgomery Memorial Hospital has served residents faithfully for decades, but aging infrastructure and out of date design limit its ability to meet today's care standards.
While FirstHealth has committed $43.2 million to the project, philanthropy will play a crucial role in ensuring the new facility opens strong, efficient and equipped for the evolving needs of the region.
"This is more than a construction project," said Kerry Herbine, president of Montgomery Memorial Hospital. "It is a bold reimagining of how rural health care can thrive - patient centered, forward thinking and deeply rooted in the needs of our community."
Tickets are $100 per person, with sponsorship opportunities available. Individuals interested in attending or supporting the Derby Day Fundraiser may contact Jamie Lariviere at [email protected] or (910) 571 5024.
