Victim Identified in Homicide Investigation in the 2800 block of Powers Boulevard

On April 26, 2026, at 12:21 AM, officers from Stetson Hills were dispatched to the 2800 block of North Powers Boulevard for a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located three victims suffering at least one gunshot wound each. Two of the victims, an adult male and a juvenile female, were transported to a local hospital and are in stable condition. One victim, an adult male, was treated on scene but succumbed to his injuries.

On April 27, 2026, the El Paso County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy and identified the deceased victim as 19-year-old Cortez Mason Jr. While the Coroner's Office will determine the cause and manner of death, this is being investigated as a homicide. A photo of Mr. Mason has been provided by the family below.

This was the 5th homicide in Colorado Springs this year. Last year at this time, there were 14 homicides.
