City and County to Host Area 1B Community Forum March 19

The City and County of Santa Fe will host a community forum on the future of Area 1B on Thursday, March 19, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Food Depot, 1222 Siler Rd., Suite A, Santa Fe, NM 87507.

Area 1B is located on the west side of Santa Fe near Agua FrĂa and has been the subject of ongoing discussions regarding potential jurisdiction, planning, and service options.

Earlier this year, the City and County convened a working group comprised of County Commissioners Lisa Cacari Stone and Adam F. Johnson and City Councilors Alma Castro and Pat Feghali to explore options related to Area 1B, including possible annexation and alternatives.

"The discussions around Area 1B build on many years of community dialogue and resident input," Commissioner Cacari Stone said in a statement. "We take that history seriously as we work together across City and County governments to ensure community priorities help guide the policy decisions ahead."

The working group is tasked with assessing a range of considerations, including land use, infrastructure, service delivery, and community priorities. To date, the group has met twice, including a "Living Lands" tour of the area, and City and County staff have conducted preliminary analyses of potential options.

Councilor Castro added, "The working group wants to help create a path forward through trust and mutual respect. We aim to facilitate compromise in which we preserve tradition and promote thoughtful development for future generations."

The March 19 forum will provide residents and community members with an opportunity to learn about the options being considered, ask questions, and share feedback. Public input will help inform the ongoing evaluation process.

No final determination regarding annexation or other options will be made until community feedback has been meaningfully incorporated.

Residents may attend in person or participate remotely. Remote participation information will be provided to those who register in advance.
