ATLANTA - Georgia State University is one of 10 institutions across the country selected to receive an inaugural Gilman Pioneering Institution Grant. The highly competitive $10,000 grants fund initiatives that connect study abroad experiences with career readiness in fields critical to U.S. prosperity and advancement.
The grant will fund a project by Georgia State's Office of International Initiatives (OII), "Domestic Impact: A Career-Integrated Study Abroad Workforce Initiative," which will create experiential learning opportunities that connect students over the course of the next academic year with the international business community in Atlanta. Efforts will be aimed at increasing student career readiness and showcasing student talent to international companies with a presence in the city.
The U.S. State Department's Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship launched the Pioneering Institution Grants in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The grant is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and the Forum on Education Abroad.
"We are deeply honored to be awarded the Gilman Program's Pioneering Institutions Grant," said Carrie Manning, associate provost for international initiatives at Georgia State. "This award affirms Georgia State University's longstanding commitment to expanding access to high-impact international education and reflects the momentum gained through innovative, career-integrated initiatives."
