Special Envoy Zhai Jun of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Visits the European Union

From December 16 to 17, 2025, Special Envoy Zhai Jun of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue visited the European Union (EU) and met with EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Christophe Bigot.

Zhai Jun stated that China is closely watching the Palestinian question and has made unremitting efforts to promote the settlement of the Palestinian question. Not long ago, President Xi Jinping announced that China will provide US$100 million of assistance to Palestine to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and support its recovery and reconstruction.

China and the EU share a common responsibility in safeguarding regional and global peace and stability. On the Palestinian question, both China and the EU support a ceasefire in Gaza, alleviating the humanitarian crisis, and implementing the two-State solution, which is also a broad consensus within the international community. China is ready to maintain communication and coordination with the EU to promote a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian question at an early date based on the two-State solution and to achieve long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.

Christophe Bigot said that the EU and China share similar positions in promoting the resolution of the Palestinian question and supporting the two-State solution. Currently, the situation in Gaza is undergoing new changes, presenting both opportunities and risks and challenges. The EU will intensify its efforts to promote post-conflict reconstruction in Gaza and actively participate in post-conflict governance. The EU is willing to work with China to play a constructive role in promoting a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian question.
