The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met today with the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in the margins of the NATO Summit in Ankara.
President Meloni congratulated President Erdoğan on the Summit's excellent results, which have reaffirmed the unity of the Atlantic Alliance and the common commitment to the collective defence and security of the transatlantic area, including the Alliance's Southern Flank.
The two leaders went on to review bilateral relations, reaffirming their will to further strengthen trade and mutual investments, including in the defence industry and other strategic sectors such as space, with regard to which Türkiye will be hosting the International Astronautical Congress in October.
The two leaders then discussed the main international issues of common interest, including Ukraine, the Middle East, Iran and Libya. With regard to the latter point in particular, they agreed on the importance of further enhancing cooperation in combatting irregular migration flows and human trafficking.
