Ministry hosts the 6th seminar for young diplomats from Eastern Partnership countries

Traditionally marking the start of the diplomatic autumn, the seminar serves as a forum for exchanging views on key aspects of Slovenia's bilateral relations with countries in the region, the ambitions of young diplomats regarding the European Union, and cross-cutting regional issues, including the current geopolitical challenges that significantly influence European and international politics.

Building on a strengthened mutual interest in deepening economic ties, business topics were at the forefront of this year's seminar. During a visit to the SPIRIT public agency, the diplomats were introduced to the Slovenian business environment and discussed ways to strengthen economic relations. In collaboration with Ljubljana Tourism and the Slovenian Tourist Board, they explored the story of Slovenian tourism, from its sustainable vision and development strategy to concrete opportunities for future cooperation.

As in previous years, the participants were eager to discuss EU enlargement policy and the key challenges facing the European Union. Slovenia is regarded as one of the most prominent supporters of the enlargement process in the region and as a staunch advocate of strengthening relations between the EU and its eastern partners.

The seminar concluded with an insight into the soft power of Slovenian diplomacy. During the presentation of Slovenia's priorities for its 2026-2028 membership of the Human Rights Council, the participants were informed about Slovenia's key priorities and efforts to promote respect for human rights, international peace and security. They also discussed the importance of fundamental values and the role of young diplomats with the Secretary-General of the Bled Strategic Forum, as well as their views on global changes.

The young diplomats enhanced their study visit to Slovenia, organised in coordination with the Ministry and the Centre for European Perspective (CEP), by participating in the Young Bled Strategic Forum (28-30 August) and the Bled Strategic Forum (31 August-1 September).
