On September 20, the leading Icelandic newspaper Morgunblaðið carried an article by Ambassador He Rulong entitled "Forging a Shared Future in Gender Equality". The article highlighted China's progress in advancing women's all-round development and introduced the upcoming Global Leaders' Meeting on Women soon to be held in China.
The article pointed out that the Fourth World Conference on Women was successfully held in Beijing in 1995, which adopted the landmark Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Over the past 30 years, China has made steady progress in women's undertaking by optimizing laws and policies, strengthening education and economic empowerment. Iceland, for its part, has ranked first in the Global Gender Gap Index for many years in a row. Despite differences in national conditions, both China and Iceland can make important contributions to advancing gender equality and jointly promoting the global cause of women's development.
